Joe Russo’s Almost Dead to play two night run in Chicago this September 19-20, 2014 at Concord Music Hall

Joe Russo's Almost Dead in ChicagoSilver Wrapper presents two very special evenings with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead on Friday & Saturday, September 19-20, 2014 at Concord Music Hall.

Not only does this super-group quintet play tight and vicious versions of some of the most complex songs in the Grateful Dead repertoire, but they play them with a rawness & energy absent from the stage since the “Live” Dead era. More importantly, all of the jams are wild and incredibly adventurous. Joe Russo is a beast behind the kit who’s in the peak of his career. Scott Metzger is a criminally underrated guitarist who has a chameleon-like ability to alter his sound to compliment any situation. The intensity of Dave Dreiwitz is unmatched by anyone, while Marco Benevento spouts these crazy tones and layers of sound that mix the best of what each keyboardist in GD history brought to the band. Finally, add Tommy Hamilton, whose voice and biting leads help push this ensemble over the top.

Don’t believe us? Check out this recording from their Capital Theater gig last December.

Doors @ 8:00 pm. Show @ 9:00 pm. Ages 17+.

Tickets go on-sale at Silver Wrapper Ticketing on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 10:00am CST.

The New Mastersounds celebrate 10 Years in the USA at House of Blues in Chicago on June 7, 2014

NMS_USASilver Wrapper and House of Blues present The New Mastersounds, who are “Celebrating 10 Years in the USA” on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at House of Blues.

On May 22, 2004, Leeds (UK) based funk/soul quartet, The New Mastersounds played for the first time ever show in the USA, opening for The Greyboy Allstars at the House of Blues in Chicago. Our boys shuffled nervously onto the enormous stage, played 45 minutes worth of quirky 3-minute instrumental ditties, and shuffled off again, leaving those who had caught the set bewildered but impressed. Somehow, ten years have elapsed since then, during which period both the band and us have lost count of the number of times they’ve played here since then. One things for sure, both the audience and appreciation has grown into a fanatical frenzy in Chicago. Join us as we help them celebrate a decade’s worth of funk filled memories in the USA.

Young and Sick makes Chicago debut on June 10, 2014 at Schubas

YoungSickSilver Wrapper and React present Young and Sick on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Schubas.

Young and Sick, the catchall name of the LA visual artist and increasingly noteworthy musician, will release his self-titled debut LP out April 8 via Capitol subsidiary Harvest Records. From the sounds of his EPs, Young and Sick fits right in with the whole indie-R&B thing going on right now, but sounds more inspired by smooth ’80s sophisti-pop than hip hop. Listen to two of the tracks on his Soundcloud.

Doors @ 8:30 pm. Show @ 9:00 pm. Ages 18+.

Yo La Tengo to headline CIMMfest at Concord Music Hall on May 1, 2014

YoLaPosterSilver Wrapper and CIMMfest present Yo La Tengo at Concord Music Hall in Chicago, IL on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Yo La Tengo - the quintessential critics’ band – singer/guitarist Ira Kaplan, his wife, drummer/vocalist Georgia Huble and bassist James McNew explore the extremes of feedback-driven noise rock and sweetly melodic pop, shading their work with equal parts scholarly composure and fannish enthusiasm. Prolific and mercurial, they have ultimately transcended their myriad influences to ensconce themselves as a beloved institution of the indie community.

Doors @ 8:30 pm. Show @ 9:00 pm. Ages 18+.

Easy Star All-Stars and John Brown’s Body team up at Concord Music Hall on April 3, 2014

EasyStarSilver Wrapper presents Easy Star All-Stars and John Brown’s Body at Concord Music Hall in Chicago, IL on Thursday, April 3, 2014.

The Easy Star All-Stars have established themselves as one of the top international reggae acts since their live debut in 2003. Thanks to their best-selling tribute album releases, Dub Side of the Moon (2003), Radiodread (2006), Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band (2009), Dubber Side of the Moon (2010), and Easy Star’s Thrillah (2012), as well as original albums First Light (2011) and Until That Day (2008), the Easy Star All-Stars have built a growing, dedicated fan base throughout the world, bringing together fans of reggae, classic rock, dub and indie rock into one big family. Since 2009, the All-Stars have played over 350 shows in over 30 different countries on 6 different continents, truly establishing themselves as one of the top reggae touring acts in the world. As part of celebrating 20+ years since Dub Side of the Moon, the Easy Star All-Stars will perform DUB SIDE LIVE.

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that Kings And Queens is a synthesis of every aspect of the storied career of John Brown’s Body. It’s as if, after close to two decades of existence, this pioneering band has finally crafted their ultimate statement, tying together styles they’ve dabbled in, paid respect to, created, or pushed forward into one tightly woven mosaic. JBB’s Future Roots is now present tense. John Brown’s Body formed (in Boston in the mid 1990s) at a time when there wasn’t what you’d call a U.S. reggae scene. The American bands that played reggae were regional at best, touring little, and many were primarily cover bands of the best known Jamaican reggae. JBB was one of a handful of groups that began touring nationally and created distinctly American reggae, steeped in traditional vibes but incorporating elements from other genres.

Local reggae project Ted Sirota’s Heavyweight Dub will open the show.

Doors @ 7:30 pm. Show @ 8:00 pm. Ages 17+.

Lotus to play two nights at The Riv in Chicago on April 11-12, 2014

Lotus @ The Riv 4/11-12/2014Silver Wrapper and Jam Productions present the return of one of the defining and most popular acts in live electronic music, Lotus, as a two night run this on Friday, April 11, 2014 and Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL.

Lotus has crafted a unique musical style outside of simple genre limitations. On a given weekend the band could be the only group with guitars at an all electronic music festival and then the next night crash a traditional rock festival with their dance heavy beats, synths and samples. Equal parts instrumental post-rock and electronic dance, the band’s distinguishing feature is the ability to maintain a decidedly unique musical voice and remain current while bucking passing trends.

Support on Friday 4/11 will be Gigamesh and Penguin Prison.

Support on Saturday 4/12 will be The Floozies and Daedelus.

Doors @ 7:30 PM. Show @ 8:30 PM. Ages 18+.
